Within the walls of Amish Market on West Main Street, visitors will find much more than a furniture store that sells a variety of other products.

For example, all of the furniture — including beds, dining tables, dressers, desks, chairs and cabinets — have been painstakingly hand-crafted by the Amish and Mennonites, ensuring a quality that’ll last for many years to come.

This also includes the outdoor furniture they sell, much of which is displayed on the front porch of the business.

It was store owner Michael Monahan’s appreciation of the Amish and Mennonite cultures that prompted him to open the business, selling the well-made products from the highly respected craftspeople.

After living in the Houston area (Cleveland, Texas), then on to the Austin/Elgin vicinity, the Monahans fell in love with the Hill Country.

Michael said he woke up one morning with the idea of selling Amish furniture in Fredericksburg.

“Wouldn’t you like to live in the Texas Hill Country?” he asked his wife, Mary.
