Harper's Reid named TGCA all-star coach

Harper High School head girls’ track coach Will Reid has been named one of the track all-star coaches for 1-A, 2-A and 3-A schools in the 2013 Summer Clinic, according to the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

A native of Sweeny, Reid attended the University of Texas at Austin where he was a pole vaulter on the track and field team. After graduating from UT in 1983 with a BS in education with minors in math and economics, he began his coaching career.

Reid is currently in his sixth year at Harper, where he also serves as cross country coach.

He mentioned that one of his great thrills in life was to see and coach his two daughters — Taylor and Payton — in the recent UIL state 1-A track and field championships.

“I cannot tell you enough how special that was to watch both girls run at the state track meet for me both as their coach and their dad, as well as for my wife, Wendi, also a teacher here at Harper,” Reid said.
