Cranky Frank's Barbecue company makes Texas Monthly's Top 50 list

Some people might look at Cranky Frank’s Barbecue Company as just another Texas barbecue restaurant, offering just another menu of Texas barbecue.
But there is, indeed, something special about Cranky Frank’s. Whether it’s the customer service, the attention to detail, or the “secret” recipe for the sauce, there is something special.
That specialness has landed the Fredericksburg eatery on the “top 50” list of best barbecue eateries in the Lone Star State, according to research conducted by Texas Monthly magazine and published in its June 2013 issue.
Every five years or so, since 1997, the publication comes out with its 50-best index. This year, thanks to a panel of the magazine’s experts who came in unannounced for a meal some time back, Cranky Frank’s made the list.
The Texas Monthly visitors came in anonymously, said Dan Martin, who, with his wife, Kala, have owned Cranky Frank’s for the past 10 years (Note: Tuesday, May 28 is the anniversary day and that’s when the restaurant will hand out free koozies to the first 200 customers).
They bought the business from local resident Ken Hall.
