Rest in peace, Chief
Last week, Fredericksburg lost a good man in Police Chief Paul Oestreich, who quietly served this community with a lifetime of service in law enforcement.
On Monday, lawmen from around Central Texas came to honor Oestreich at his funeral, and many others filled the sanctuary and fellowship hall of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church to capacity.
It is rare these days to find homegrown talent that wishes to stay where he or she was raised. As stated at the funeral, many use small town police chief positions (or city or school positions, for that matter) as a career springboard to administrative positions in larger locales. But Oestreich loved where he was from, and he wanted to continue to live here to serve this town.
It also must have been comforting to those under his command to know that Oestreich had their back and would side with his officers. It was said he surrounded himself with good people and the department shone for it.
