Heritage girls win TAPPS state track title
The girls and boys on Heritage School’s track and field teams spent last Friday and Saturday setting a dozen personal bests while competing in the TAPPS state 1A championships held at Baylor University in Waco.
With those extra efforts, the girls captured first place with a total of 129 points, 44 points away from second place finisher Fort Worth Covenant Classical, while the Eagle boys took home fifth with 40 points, one point shy of a fourth place finish.
The Lady Eagles also won last year’s track and field state championship, as did the Heritage boys.
Kami Jones grabbed three individual gold medals, taking the top spot in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes and the high jump. She also earned another gold as a member of the top girls’ 4x100-meter relay team (along with Sarah Morrow, Victoria Hughes and Claire Pedregon).
Pedregon took first place in the 100-meter hurdles event.
“I could not be more proud of the way this girls’ team responded to the challenge of competing at the state level,” said Brad Sultemeier, the Heritage girls’ coach. “The leadership from our team captains through the entire season has been the ‘difference-maker’ in my mind.”
