Three school records were topped by the contingent of athletes from Harper High School who took part in last weekend’s state UIL 1A track and field championships held on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
Earning a bronze medal for her third place finish in the girls’ long jump was HHS senior Alexa Guerrero whose best effort covered 17’4.5” and good enough to rewrite the previous school mark. Meanwhile, in the boys’ discus throw event, Dalton Sembritzky finished sixth in state when he tossed for another HHS record when his attempt covered 154’2”.
Harper’s girls took sixth place in the 1,600-meter relay in a record-setting time of 4:06.56. The team is made up of Sydney Collins, Payton Reid, Megan Myers, Taylor Reid, and alternate Chrissie Bryant.
Other individual results for the Longhorns included Logan White’s fourth place effort in the 100-meter hurdles, Taylor Reid who garnered a sixth place mark in the 300-meter hurdles, Crystal Schlueter who took seventh in the 3,200-meter run, and Kayla Inmon who captured eighth in the 1,600-meter run.
