ERNA SCHMIDT SCHNEIDER
June 27, 1918 – May 11, 2013
Erna Frieda Schneider, age 94, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at her residence in the Cherry Spring community.
Born on June 27, 1918, in the Rheingold community, she was the youngest of six children born to Alfred L. Schmidt and Else Grasso Schmidt.
Her funeral was held Wednesday, May 15, at 2 p.m., at Beckmann Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Vitek of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church officiating.
Interment followed in the Schneider family cemetery at Cherry Spring.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home.
When Erna was six months old, the family moved to their ranch along the Pedernales River in Blanco County. She was baptized at Holy Ghost Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg on April 6, 1919. She attended the Post Oak School. She loved riding horses and working with goats, sheep, and cattle.
Erna confirmed her faith at Trinity Lutheran Church at Albert on April 23, 1933. On Dec. 5, 1939, she married Reuben F. Schneider at Trinity Lutheran. They established their home in the Cherry Spring community where they engaged in ranching and farming. Reuben and Erna were blessed with four children.
In addition to her love of ranching, Erna enjoyed sewing countless quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She had bountiful gardens and found satisfaction in sewing beautiful clothing for her three daughters. Erna’s life embodied the Christian faith. Her Christian love was apparent in her love of her family and friends.
Erna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reuben, who died Dec. 17, 1995; son, Wilton Charles, who died at age 2½; siblings and spouses, August and Sophie Schmidt, Gilbert and Laura Schmidt, Norma and Erie Sultemeier, and two sisters, Selma and Alma, who died in infancy.
She is survived by her three daughters, Helen “Vicky” Birck and husband, Francis, of Cherry Spring; Eileen Whited and husband, Keith, of Cherry Spring; and Sharon Wendt and husband, Bobby, of McGregor.
Also surviving are six grandchildren and their spouses, Cherie and Jason Bingo, Rodney and Mary Birck, Sarah Whited, Melissa Whited and Emily Lammert, Amber Wendt, and Andrew Wendt, and one great-grandchild, Camryn Bingo. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Rodney Birck, Jason Bingo, Andrew Wendt, Billy Bob Schneider, Sidney Ellebracht and Ray Rusche. Honorary pallbearers were Cherie Bingo, Sarah Whited, Melissa Whited and Amber Wendt.
Memorial donations may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Beckmann Funeral Home.
