Herbert Alvin (Sonny) Barsch, 83, of Somerset, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, in San Antonio.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 20, at Oak Island United Methodist Church in San Antonio, with interment following in the church cemetery.
Barsch was born July 24, 1929, in the Cave Creek community of Gillespie County, the son of Charles Barsch and Lydia Duecker Barsch. He attended Stonewall and Fredericksburg schools before moving to San Antonio.
After graduating from Fox Tech High School, Barsch joined the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. Afterwards, he was a civil service employee at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio.
Barsch married Charlotte Jesse Harris in 1953. After her death, he married Ada Lavanda Crews in 1959. She is also deceased.
He is survived by four sons and one daughter, including Gary Barsch, James Barsch, Frederick Barsch, Susan Barsch and Donald Barsch; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wives and parents, Barsch was preceded in death by three sisters, including Augusta Hall, Alvina Barsch and Margarete Guthrie.
