Both contests will be held at Taft High School in San Antonio.

Along with Fredericksburg, other bands competing from Region XI include Boerne, Harlendale, Kennedy, Memorial, Floresville, Tivy (Kerrville), McCollum, South San, Uvalde and Southside.

The public is invited to attend, and there is no admission charge. It was noted that spectators are allowed in both the concert and sight reading contests.

Symphonic Band

Under the direction of Kevin Baxter, the FHS Symphonic Band will compete in UIL Concert and Sight Reading contests on Tuesday.

For the concert portion of the program, the FHS Symphonic Band will play “Rough Riders March” by King, “Kenya Contrasts” by Himes and “Joy” by Ticheli.

To earn a Sweepstakes Award, a band must earn division one ratings in both concert and sight reading contests.

FHS Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble will perform their concert selections at 5 p.m. on Wednesday followed by sight reading at 5:40 p.m.

Under the direction of John Rauschuber, the Wind Ensemble will perform “Clowns” by Parker, “Themes From Dream Bushes” by Grainger and “Vesuvius” by Ticheli.

Several soloists will be featured during the Wind Ensemble’s concert program.
