Harper Sending Two

Harper High School’s Cutter Bernhard and Claire Jones, both juniors, are set to compete this Friday at the University Interscholastic League State Track and Field Meet at Mike Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin.

At the State Qualifier Meet at McMurry University in Abilene last Friday, pole vaulter Bernhard placed third. He jumped 15 feet, improving his regional jump by a foot and setting a new Harper School record.

Bernhard placed first at the regional, area and district meets.

Jones, running the 800-meter, placed fifth with a time of 2:28.08. She followed first place finishes at both area and district competitions with a second in the regional competition with a time of 2:24.96, her personal best.

This will be Jones’ second year to compete at state in the 800-meter. She placed sixth there last year.

Bernhard is scheduled to vault at noon on Friday and Jones is scheduled to run at 7:25 p.m. in Austin.
